Help the Lions Celebrate 100 Years of Community Service
100 years of service is something special that is worth celebrating! The Lions Club Association is celebrating 100 years of community service in 2017.
One of the first celebrations will occur in La Crosse at the Wisconsin Lions State Convention on May 4-7, 2017. At the convention there will be several activities relating to the anniversary celebration.
Among them are the arrival of a special Centennial Torch – one of two traveling around the world to the 210 countries in which there are Lion Clubs. There will also be a centennial service challenge to see which of the ten districts in Wisconsin collects the most used glasses for redistribution through our Lion Missions. The goal is to collect 250,000 pairs of glasses by the convention.
The public is invited to help celebrate by participating in the following activities:
A cake and ice cream social featuring homemade ice cream by Ranison Ice Cream Parlor (held on Friday afternoon, May 5 from 5:00 – 6:30 in the South Hall of the La Crosse Center). Stop in to see the many Lion service projects and enjoy some cake and ice cream. During the social the Lions will be doing free Vision Screening.
On Saturday morning at 9:00 the Lions will have a Strides Walk to promote and support Diabetes Awareness. Diabetes is a major cause of blindness, the special cause all Lions support, and this walk celebrates the Lions involvement in this important health issue. The walk will circle Riverside Park – a short ¾ mile route. Please meet in the Radisson hotel and participate in the walk.
Each day during the convention the Lions will be collecting and sorting glasses donated by the public. Bring used glasses to the La Crosse Center South Hall on Friday or Saturday, May 5 and 6 and/or help sort glasses already donated.
The Lions Association is the world’s largest service organization with approximately 1.4 million members in 210 countries. Where there is a need there is a Lions Club to serve.
