Head to Horicon for monarch tagging, a guided paddle, stories and volunteer opportunities

HORICON, Wis. - Families and individuals who are searching for outdoor activities should look no further! Head to Horicon Marsh this fall for monarch tagging, outdoor skills and a guided paddle! And, don't forget to check out the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center's new Explorium.

Saturday, Sept. 9, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.- Monarch Tagging

Catch monarchs and watch as DNR staff tag these magnificent migrants as they start their journey to Mexico. Insect nets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.

Thursday, Sept. 1410-11 a.m.- Stories at the Marsh: Wetland Yoga

Stories and a special yoga session for our young friends! Best for ages 1-10.

Friday, Sept. 15, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.- Guided Paddle

Guided Paddle of Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area. Pre-registration is required along with a $15 fee. Contact Liz Herzmann at 920-387-7893 or elizabeth.herzmann@wisconsin.gov for information and a registration form. Free for Friends members. Limit of 15 participants.

Saturday, Sept. 2310-11:30 a.m.- National Hunting and Fishing Day

Activities for kids who are interested in bowhunting and fishing. All equipment will be provided. No prior training is needed and all ages are welcome.

Saturday, Sept. 30, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.- National Public Lands Day

Help DNR staff and volunteers collect native prairie seeds and work on a variety of other projects. Long pants, sturdy shoes and gloves are recommended. All ages are welcome. Meet at the Horicon Marsh Education Center on Hwy. 28.
