Head to Horicon Marsh in September for a guided Paddle, archery lessons, and much more

HORICON, Wis. - Visit Horicon Marsh in September and learn more about the
amphibians and reptiles that inhabit the marsh, learn to shoot a bow and
arrow, or go for a paddle with friends and family.

Thursday, Sept. 810-11 a.m. - Stories at the Marsh

Join a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources educator for "Slippery,
Slimy, Scaly" themed storytelling and craft-making at the Horicon Marsh
Education and Visitor Center. This event is best for children ages 1-10
years old.



Friday, Sept. 16, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Guided Paddle of Horicon Marsh State
Wildife Area

Join Liz Herzmann, DNR wildlife educator, and Bird Club President Jeff Bahls
on a guided paddle of Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area. Learn about the
history of the marsh, search for wildlife and learn more about what the
department does to manage the 11,000 acre state wildlife area.

Attendees will meet at the Greenhead Boat Landing and paddle down the 6.5
mile canoe trail. The guided paddle will end at the Nebraska Street Boat
Landing - shuttles will be provided. There is a limit of 15 participants,
and pre-registration is required. Please note that canoes and kayaks,
paddles, and floatation devices will not be provided. Cost is $15 per
person, and prior paddling experience is preferred. For registration

Saturday, Sept. 1710-11 a.m. - Marsha the Turtle's Birthday Head to
Horicon Marsh Sept. 17 and help Marsha the Turtle celebrate her first
birthday with games, crafts and other fun party activities. Join Marsha and
her slippery, slimy, and scaly friends and learn more about reptiles and
amphibians.



Thursday, Sept. 2210-11 a.m. - Stories at the Marsh Join a DNR educator
for a "Migration Masters" themed storytelling and craft-making session at
the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. This event is best for
children ages 1-10 years old.



Saturday, Sept. 2410-11:30a.m. - Archery Lessons

Take advantage of this great opportunity to use equipment provided by the
National Archery in the Schools
Program<http://dnr.wi.gov/education/outdoorSkills/Nasp.html> for target
archery. All equipment will be provided, and no prior training is needed.
This event is appropriate for children in grades four and above.
