Havenwoods State Forest to host Winter NatureFest
MILWAUKEE - - Havenwoods State Forest and the Friends of Havenwoods, Inc., will hold their annual Winter NatureFest on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. The event will take place at Havenwoods, located at 6141 N. Hopkins Street in Milwaukee from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Mammals: Surviving the Big Chill!” is the theme of this year’s free festival. Visitors of all ages will enjoy a variety of activities, ranging from live mammal programs to animal tracking hikes and nature-related crafts. Snowshoes are available for borrowing all day. Refreshments will be for sale, but all other activities are free.
Festival-goers will see a live groundhog from the Wildlife in Need Center and a live chipmunk from Hawthorn Glen. Families can make mammal crafts and a backyard feeder for squirrels. They can explore the park on a mammal scavenger hunt and a mammal survival game.
Visitors can bid on items at the Friends of Havenwoods Silent Auction. All proceeds are used to support Havenwoods’ nature education programs.
Havenwoods State Forest is a 237-acre nature preserve in the heart of Milwaukee, featuring six miles of trails, weekly nature activities, and field trips for school and youth groups.
