Great Lakes Spotted Muskellunge movement study

Wisconsin DNR Fisheries staff, with support from local fishing clubs and
conservation clubs, recently implanted sonic transmitters into 15 yearling
Great Lakes spotted muskellunge that were released into Winnebago System
waters. Fish were tagged on July 29, and all 15 fish survived the holding
period prior to release. I have attached an overview of the project that
provides some additional project background and possible future directions.
This project was fully funded by club support and could not have been
carried out without their help. The Wild Rose Fish Hatchery also did a
great job in keeping fish stress levels low and ensuring their safe arrival
to the Upriver Lakes. Janice Kerns also did a great job as lead surgeon
while Whitney and Evan provided AQUI-S support. I look forward to future
results and the possibility of expanding the study in 2017.
