Large Juneau County Tom falls to Mukwonago hunter
Dean Pavletich of Mukwonago took full advantage of his harvest permit April 23 in Juneau County, finding a number of receptive Toms before dropping a 25 pound gobbler coming to his calls.
Dean saw one Tom the day before and got in early in the same area the next morning. He heard one distant gobble, called lightly and “the woods broke loose”, he told OWO.
“At least three Toms answered and a number of hens,” he said. I moved three times. Once I got up and a turkey roosted on a tree near me took off. The last move was about 75 yards closer to where I heard a gobble. I sat down and called. That must have done it.”
The big boy came in looking for a date. Dean first saw him at about 40 yards, taking the shot at 35. Dean said it short and sweet after the duel this time worked in the hunter’s favor.
“I was pretty happy,” he said.
