Go Wild system implementation continues; DNR issuing temporary operating receipts for boats, recreational vehicles
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' new Go Wild system is now processing registrations for boats, recreational vehicles and snowmobiles and issuing temporary operating receipts. Customers who submitted payment by mail will be provided temporary operating receipts within the next two weeks.
Decals and registration cards will be mailed to all customers by the end of April, said Mark Rappe, of DNR's bureau of customer and outreach services. Registration decals, once received, must still be affixed to the vehicle and registration cards carried while operating the vehicle.
"With the snow and ice gone from lakes and trails statewide, we understand our customers are excited to get out and take advantage of some nice early season recreational opportunities," Rappe said. "With the March 31 registration expiration for boats and ATVs and as part of the changeover to the new Go Wild system, we had more than 95,000 customers send in their registrations via mail during the transition period. We are now processing those and will be issuing the temporary operating receipts."
Until the new decals or mailed temporary operating receipts arrive, customers should present their renewal notice as proof of current registration. Going forward, Rappe said customers are being encouraged to use Go Wild to register boats, ATVs/UTVs and snowmobiles because the online system is fast and will provide the temporary operating receipt immediately.
"Since the system launched two weeks ago, we've sold more than 528,000 products including Conservation Patron items and conducted more than 140,000 transactions," Rappe said. "During the height of the turkey tag sales last week, we were processing nearly 7,500 transactions per hour. In the days ahead, we will be pushing through additional system improvements and a software adjustment to improve the use of the touch screen technology."
The Go Wild system is part of a larger DNR campaign to encourage people to head outdoors and enjoy the numerous recreational opportunities made possible by the sound management of Wisconsin's natural resources. Rappe saidGoWild.WI.Gov<https://gowild.wi.gov/> acts as a portal to help plan adventures with links to information on hunting and fishing opportunities, Wisconsin's unparalleled network of state parks, trails and natural areas and a variety of maps.
The system provides increased convenience for customers who can now purchase products online with mobile devices, through DNR customer service centers and at more than 1,000 vendors statewide. The system has eliminated the use of thermal paper licenses and allows customers in most circumstances to show proof of their licenses with an optional conservation card, a verified Wisconsin driver's license, a paper printout or a pdf displayed on a mobile device.
Customers fishing in boundary waters must use the paper printouts as law enforcement officials in the surrounding states do not have access to the Wisconsin database.
