Frogs make a splash in summer 2017

Blanchard's cricket frogs come a-calling 

For the first time in half a century, the unique clicking call of the Blanchard's cricket frog has been documented in the marshes of Trempealeau County. The endangered frog was also heard calling for the first time in 35 years in Buffalo County and 30 years in La Crosse County. DNR frog experts say it’s too early to tell if the trio of discoveries means the frog is coming back in Wisconsin, but it’s certainly a good sign. Read more.

 Amphibian and Reptile Endowment Fund Launched 

People interested in helping fund work to monitor and conserve Wisconsin's rare frogs over the long-term now have a new option. The Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin recently launched the Wisconsin Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Fund, an endowment fund to provide sustainable support to protect Wisconsin's frogs, turtles, snakes, lizards, and salamanders. Learn more about this exciting new conservation opportunity.

Family-friendly fundraiser for frogs, turtles and snakes set for Sunday, July 23

See frogs, turtles and snakes up close and help raise money for their conservation during a special fundraising event Sunday 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tyranena Brewing Company in Lake Mills. Sponsored by the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, the event benefits the new Wisconsin Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Fund and offers attendees the chance to meet education animals courtesy of the Madison Area Herpetological Society. Live music by local acoustic duo, Frogwater. Learn more.
