Fish Lake Michigan? We want your input

If you fish on Lake Michigan, you might want to comment on the proposed whitefish rule

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is now accepting comments on the potential economic impacts of a new permanent rule impacting lake whitefish fisheries in Lake Michigan.  Specifically, this rule regulates trawling gear used for harvesting whitefish in a portion of Lake Michigan.

The department has posted the economic impact analysis (EIA) for the permanent rule here

Additional information on the rule is available at dnr.wi.gov, search “proposed permanent rules.”

Please submit your comments by Oct. 9, 2019 to Meredith.Penthorn@wisconsin.gov or by mail at:

Meredith Penthorn, FH/4
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
P.O. Box 7921
Madison, WI 53707

While this comment period focuses on the economic impacts of the rule, a separate comment period will be provided during the rule hearing stage for those interested in submitting comments on the impacts of the rule itself.

To learn more about Lake Michigan fisheries management, visit dnr.wi.gov and search “Lake Michigan.”
