February Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center events
* Feb. 6, 6:30-8 p.m. - Movies at the Marsh
The Movies at the Marsh series continues with "Tinkerbell: Secret of the
Wings." Tinkerbell and friends enter into the winter woods for the adventure
of a lifetime! All movies are family-friendly (rated G or PG), free of
charge, and open to the public. Refreshments are available onsite - please
use the lower entrance.
* Feb. 11, 10-11 a.m. - Stories at the Marsh
Join a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources educator for storytelling
and craft-making at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. "Are you
Afraid of the Dark" is February's theme - head to the marsh to learn more
about animals that love the darkness. Please use the lower entrance.
* Feb. 13, 1-4 p.m. - Owl and Eagle Prowl
Meet at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center and carpool to areas
that have held bald eagles in the past, and seek out great horned and snowy
owls on the way. Participants are encouraged to bring warm clothes and
binoculars - spotting scopes will be available for all attendees. Advance
registration is not required, but feel free to contact the Horicon Marsh
Education and Visitor Center at 920-387-7893 to let staff know how many
people will accompany each group.
* Feb. 20, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Cooking Wild Game Workshop
Join John Motoviloff, author of "Wild Rice Goose and Other Dishes of the
Upper Midwest," and learn more about how to cook wild game - specifically
venison and pheasant. After an hour-long presentation, participants will
have an opportunity to taste some of the delicious meals and ask the author
questions. Motoviloff works as an editor for the department, and in his
spare time, he is an outdoor writer, chef and avid sportsman. He has
appeared on Dan Small's Deer Hunt Wisconsin and holds cooking seminars at
the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Sporting Goods Show, Janesville Public
Library, Whole Foods, and Wine and Dine Wisconsin. "I love to talk to
Wisconsin's hunters and anglers about how they cook their catch," said
Motoviloff. "I often pick up a cooking tip or two-and always have a great
time!" This program is free and open to the public, and no advance
registration is required.
