Discover Wisconsin names Price County, Hayward Lakes Area, Rusk County and Flambeau River State Forest 2017 Choice Destinations

Madison, WISCONSIN – (July 12, 2018) – Discover Wisconsin, a long-running tourism TV show, will be shining the spotlight on a few Flambeau River communities in an upcoming episode. “Northwoods Fun on the Flambeau River” airs Saturday, July 21 at 10 a.m. on Fox Sports Wisconsin, 5:30 a.m. on KBJR 6, 6:30 p.m. on CBS 3 and Sunday, July 22 at 5 p.m. on WQOW TV 18. The episode is also available for online streaming on discoverwisconsin.com.

“Traversing five counties and offering ample opportunities to have some northwoods fun, the Flambeau River is a wonderful way to discover Wisconsin’s northwest corner,” said Mariah Haberman, host and director of brand development for Discover Wisconsin. “Our crew is thrilled to name the Hayward Lakes Area, Price County, Rusk County and the Flambeau River State Forest official 2017 Discover Wisconsin Choice Destinations!”

The Discover Wisconsin crew’s trek down the Flambeau kicks off near Park Falls, a northern Price County community, where host Jake Zimmermann takes in the beauty of the North Fork of the river and Smith Lake County Park and Campground.

Meanwhile, Haberman starts her trip just west of Phillips on the South Fork of the Flambeau River for an entirely different experience in the adrenaline-inducing rapids.

Next up, Haberman visits a greenhouse and garden center in Winter, Wis. where she makes a wine glass succulent and feeds koi fish.

Zimmermann meets up with a fishing guide from the Hayward Fly Fishing Company and tries his hand at archery with Big Bear Recreational, while Haberman heads to Ladysmith in Rusk County for some stand up paddle boarding.

While in Ladysmith, Zimmermann heads to the Ladysmith Mardi Gras, which features a night parade on the river that draws visitors from all over the state. Haberman experiences the Flambeau River during the winter months at Fun On The Frozen Flambeau, which headlines an ice fishing competition, toilet seat toss and show me your fur contest.

The episode wraps up at the Flambeau River State Forest. Haberman tries out a different style of canoeing, which involves a narrow section of water, a fast stream, and some rapids. Zimmermann heads into the forest with elk biologist, Laine Stowell, and then Haberman tries some grouse hunting in the forest.

“Northwoods Fun on the Flambeau River” was produced in partnership with Discover Wisconsin, Flambeau River State Forest, Hayward Lakes Visitors and Convention Bureau, Price County Tourism Department, Park Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, Phillips Area Chamber of Commerce, and Rusk County/City of Ladysmith Tourism and the Greater Ladysmith Area Chamber of Commerce. The show will reach Discover Wisconsin’s broadcast network of 600,000 viewers across the upper Great Lakes region, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Northern Illinois, and Upper Michigan. The episode was produced by Olivia Gilbert.
