Delavan Lake fishing Report 6/28/15 through 7/5/15

Fishing on Delavan Lake continues to be outstanding.  The bass, walleye and northern are all biting well.  This should continue as long as the stable weather continues.

Walleyes are located in 22-24 ft of water off main lake points.  They are aggressively hitting jigging Rapala’s or ¼ oz Echo tails.  Fire Tiger and Pearl are the best colors.  The best location I’ve found is by Willow Point or the island.

Largemouth bass fishing has been fantastic.  They are on the weed line in 15-17 ft of water.  They can be caught on a split shot rigged nightcrawler or a black & blue Chatter bait.  Look for the fish just west of the Yacht Club, by the island or by the Village Supper Club.  If a weather front or substantial amount of rain, the fish move from the weed line to 6-8 ft of water.  If they are shallow, they can be caught on Thill slip bobbers and a medium sucker.  When shallow, look for them by the Oriental boat house or by Delavan Lake Marina.

Smallmouth bass fishing has been spotty.  Most of the fish I’ve been catching are in 22-24 ft of water.  They are way off the weed line and aggressively hitting medium suckers or lindy rigged nightcrawlers.  Look for the fish west of the Yacht Club or by Belvidere Park.

Northern Pike fishing has been okay.  Most of the fish I’ve found have been off the weed line in 22-25 ft of water.  They are biting medium suckers on lindy rigs 1-2 ft off bottom.  Fish for them by the gray condos or by Delavan Lake Marina.

Bluegill fishing has been very good in 12-14 ft of water.  They are being caught just east of the Oriental boat house or by the Yacht Club.  The best approach is leaf worms, straight lined beneath the boat.  The average size has been around 8 inches with the bigger fish being slightly deeper.

Crappie fishing has been relatively slow.  Most of the action has been coming in the weeds in 10-12 ft of water.  The best action is by Belvidere Park and Browns channel.  Try fishing for them with small purple or chartreuse plastics.  You want to cast with a slow retrieve with many pauses.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
