Deer Hunting Changes
2017 WI Act 62: Mentored Hunting signed into law - effective 11/13/2017
-
- There is no longer a minimum hunting age in the state of Wisconsin. Any person age 11 and under can purchase a mentor license but is still required to hunt under the mentored hunting rules. THE CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE AND THE LICENSE IS AVAILABLE NOW THROUGH GO WILD. Hunters following the mentored program ages 12 and up will still purchase the appropriate license for their age group.
- The mentor and mentored hunter are no longer restricted to sharing one weapon between the two of them; both the hunter and the mentor may now possess a firearm, bow, or crossbow.
- Any individual mentoring a hunter is not authorized to harvest and use the mentored hunter’s deer tags, which provides the opportunity for the mentored hunter to harvest their own deer.
-
-
- This includes all tag approvals (both antlered AND antlerless deer tags).
- This includes any individual being mentored no matter the age, not just hunters ages 11 and under.
-
-
- All other mentored hunting rules still apply!
- Important reminder! All customers, regardless of age, are to provide a Social Security Number when purchasing a hunting license. Persons who have never been issued a SSN by the US government must complete and submit to the DNR an Application and Affidavit for Recreational License prior to making their purchase.
