DNR News Release: Candlelight ski events and winter hikes scheduled for southeast Wisconsin state parks and forests

MILWAUKEE-- Winter is a great time to enjoy state parks and forests in southeast Wisconsin. On Saturdays, over the next two months, hikers and skiers can cure cabin fever by enjoying candlelight ski events and winter hikes at the following locations:

Jan. 11

Kettle Moraine State Forest-Lapham Peak Unit, Delafield, - Candlelight Ski & Hike. Warm up by the bonfire or inside Trecker Lodge.  The Friends of Lapham Peak will have snacks for sale.  This event is located at Homestead Hollow from 6-9 p.m. Park office phone number: 262-646-3025

Kohler-Andrae State Park, Sheboygan- Candlelight Ski & Hike.  Approximately 200 tiki torches will light the way for skiers and hikers on the two-mile cross country trail. Refreshments will be available in the heated shelter building. No pets, snowshoes or sleds allowed. Although this is a free program, a vehicle admission sticker is required. Please stop at the park office for a map. This event is from 6-9 p.m.  Park office phone number: 920-451-4080

Jan. 25

Kettle Moraine State Forest-Southern Unit, Eagle, - Candlelight Ski & Hike. Ski or hike the forest.  The purple loop at the Nordic Trailhead will be a lighted.  This event is from 6-9 p.m. Park office phone number: 262-594-6200

Feb. 1

Big Foot Beach State Park, Lake Geneva, - Candlelight Hike.   This is the Fourth Annual candlelight hike sponsored by the Friends of Big Foot Beach State Park. You can hike or snowshoe along a 0.8 mile section of the Blue/Yellow trail. Snacks will be available from the Friends of Big Foot Beach State Park.  Meet at the picnic shelter. Harrington Beach State Park, Belgium, - Candlelight Ski & Hike. The Ansay Welcome Center will be open and hundreds of tiki torches will light the trails. If snow conditions permit, the ski trail will be groomed. No pets allowed. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Harrington Beach State Park. Meet at the Ansay Welcome Center. Feb 8

Kettle Moraine State Forest-Lapham Peak Unit, Delafield, -Candlelight Ski & Hike.    The Friends of Lapham Peak will have snacks for sale, or bring your favorite campfire foods. This event is located at Homestead Hollow and the hours are from 6-9 p.m. Park office phone number: 262-646-3025.

Kettle Moraine State Forest-Pike Lake Unit, Hartford, - Candlelight Ski & Hike.  Join the Friends of Pike Lake for the 25th Annual Candlelight Ski/Hike at Pike Lake. Over 300 luminaries will light up two trails for skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking.  Warm up by the bonfire and come inside for refreshments.   The Northern Cross Astronomers will provide telescopes for viewing the winter night sky.  This event is from 6-9 p.m. and vehicle admission stickers are required. Feb. 15
