Cutright and Lintereur to be Inducted into Hall of Fame

The Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame will honor two new leaders who have contributed much to Wisconsin’s Conservation Legacy. This year’s ceremony will honor Noel Jefferson Cutright and LeRoy Joseph Lintereur beginning at 10AM on Saturday, April 30th, at the Sentry Theater in Stevens Point. The public is invited.

The Inductees this year reflect the many facets of Conservation in Wisconsin: the lifelong contributions of dedicated individuals, the work of conservation organizations and agencies, and the important role that can be played by business and industry:

Noel Jefferson Cutright (1943-2013) devoted his personal and professional life to bird conservation, citizen science and ecological restoration. He promoted the research, science and conservation initiatives of the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology and edited the landmark Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas. As Senior Ecologist working for We Energies for 29 years, he advanced environmental projects and a conservation ethic within the energy industry.

Through his 30-year career, LeRoy Joseph Lintereur (1920-1995) as a Game Manager with the WDNR, spent his professional and personal life protecting the resources, wildlife and wetlands of northeastern Wisconsin. As an expert witness in a precedent-setting Wisconsin Supreme Court case, he helped to defend and ultimately preserve many wetlands of Wisconsin. As a gifted naturalist, he shared his passion for nature and wild places through his teaching and writing.

The event will begin at 9AM with a coffee reception, followed by the program at 10AM at the Sentry Theater in the Sentry Insurance Headquarters located at the 1800 North Point Drive in Stevens Point. The ceremony includes tributes by invited speakers and the presentation of recognition plaques which will be displayed permanently in the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame (WCHF) Gallery located in the Schmeeckle Reserve. A12:00NOON luncheon at the nearby Sentry World complex will conclude the day’s activities. Luncheon reservations are $25 and can be made by calling 715-346-4992 (Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center).

Reflecting on the new inductees, WCHF President, Joe Passineau, said: “The Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame continues to grow by recognizing the outstanding contributions of Wisconsin’s conservation leaders and the efforts of many  conservation-minded organizations, agencies and businesses. Dr Cutright shared his love of birds and wild nature by working as an ecologist for We Energies and advancing the research and educational initiatives of the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology. LeRoy Lintereur shared his love of nature, wildlife and wetlands through his work for the WDNR and his love of teaching and writing. Both show that all of us, whatever our interests or talents, can make a difference by finding our place in the world of conservation.”

The WCHF and Visitor Center, located in the Schmeeckle Reserve at 2419 North Point Drive in Stevens Point, was established in 1985 to advance the conservation legacy of Wisconsin and now recognizes 88 leaders who have contributed significantly to it. WCHF is a cooperative venture of 23 state-wide conservation organizations. Individuals may be nominated for induction by member organizations or by the public. Based on a set of criteria, nominees are selected for induction by the WCHF Board of Directors and an independent Board of Governors.

If you are looking for inspiration or ways you too can contribute to conservation efforts in Wisconsin and globally, check out the life stories of the 88 WCHF Inductees by visiting WCHF in Stevens Point or by exploring our website: http://www.wchf.org/inductees.
