Crex Meadows Wildlife Area has a full calendar of events for fall fun

Kick off the fall season with programs and events at Crex Meadows. Check out a few dates coming up in September and October:

Grantsburg Library Programs

Oct. 9; 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Come to the Grantsburg Library on Wednesday mornings for a special program with natural resources educator Lauren Finch. Kids will get to hear stories, do crafts and participate in wildlife-related activities.

Crane Tours

Oct. 9, 16, 23, 30 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Meet at the Visitor Center, then carpool through the state wildlife area to watch the sandhill cranes fly in from their daytime feeding grounds to their nightly roosting grounds. Pre-registration required.

​Fall Wildlife Festival

Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Visit Crex Meadows in October for our annual Fall Wildlife Festival. There will be Sandhill Crane Tours, property tours, an archery range, mucking in the education pond, live animals and more. Some events may require pre-registration. Call the Visitor Center for more information or to register.

​Pumpkin Carving

Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Get in the spooky spirit with a hands-on carving night. In preparation for Howl-O-Ween, volunteers plan to carve 100 pumpkin. Volunteers will be able to take their carved pumpkins home after our Howl-o-Ween event on Nov. 1. Don't forget to bring blades, tools, or a carving kit for assistance. Pumpkins provided. All ages.

​Howl-O-Ween Event

Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

A fun filled family evening. Take a guided interpretive hike on paths lit with jack-o'-lantern light, learn about wildlife through a variety of activities and enjoy some seasonal treats. Come in your Halloween costume and bring a flashlight. All ages.
