Cool creatures and whitetails are subject of early November programs at Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center

HORICON, Wis. -- The public is invited to join a Department of Natural Resources educator as the myths and misconceptions are dispelled  about some of the cool creatures that call the marsh home on November 1, from 5-6 p.m.  If you think bats are blind, opossums can hang from their tail, or that spiders come into houses in the fall to get out of the cold, this is the program to attend.

“Often we label things that we don’t understand as creepy or gross but in reality they have quite amazing adaptations that allow them to succeed in their environment,” said Liz Herzmann, DNR wildlife educator. “This fun program will help you learn the truth, and maybe even appreciate the unhuggables of the natural world.”

Deer tales

No, this program is not about deer camp, but it will leave you with a better understanding of the wondrous white-tailed deer inhabiting the marsh.

Families are invited to join a DNR educator for an evening of storytelling and craft making on Nov. 4, from 6:30-7:15 p.m.  The theme for the evening will be the white-tailed deer of the marsh. We will begin with a reading of the story “Deer Watch.”

“This will be a fun evening to learn more about white-tailed deer and why they are so special to people around the state of Wisconsin,” says Liz Herzmann, DNR wildlife educator. “You will even get a chance to make your own deer to take home!”

No registration is required and the programs are free to the public.  All ages are welcome!

For more information please visit www.horiconmarsh.org or call 920-387-7893. The visitor center is located at N7725 Hwy 28, Horicon.
