Connect with fun in DATCP's Farm & Family Building at the Wisconsin State Fair

MADISON – When planning your trip to the Wisconsin State Fair August 6-16, include a stop in the Farm & Family Building. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is ready to connect with you every day.

New this year, visitors to the Farm & Family Building will receive their own adventure passport. If you visit all six educational activities, you will receive six stamps.

The Cow Pie Pitch is back for a second year, allowing visitors to play a bean bag toss game while learning how manure is applied in our farm fields to grow crops.

Everyone can play a game to test their consumer IQ, or spin our giant wheel to learn about fruits and vegetables grown on our Wisconsin farms.

If you dig animals, stop by one of our new games. Dig through dried corn and soybeans to find a medallion.  Then, based on the medallion you find, check your knowledge of our Wisconsin livestock and pets by answering a trivia question from our animal health team.

Think you know how to pack a safe lunch? Our food safety experts will challenge you to “Bag the Bacteria” in a new game about how to make sure your food is still safe when you open your lunch box each day.

The button maker will be back in 2015. Between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. each day, fairgoers will be able to color a picture, which staff will make into a button to take home. Limit one button per visitor.

The Farm & Family Building also includes the popular Veggie 500. The Wisconsin State FFA Officers will be on hand to assist fairgoers race vegetable cars down the 16 foot track. All racers will receive an updated ribbon bookmark for participating. Races are held every ten minutes.

The 68th Alice in Dairyland Teyanna Loether will make daily appearances in the Farm & Family Building. Collect one of her new postcards or posters featuring Wisconsin cheese.

DATCP will have a literature rack available daily for farmers and consumers. Pick up information on available farm services or how to protect yourself from common consumer scams.

Connect with DATCP in the Farm & Family Building each day of the fair from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Farm & Family Building is located in State Fair’s Ag Village, just west of the Badgerland Financial Discovery Barnyard.

Find fair information at wistatefair.com. Follow the fun at the fair on DATCP’s FacebookTwitter and Flickr.
