Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report
As we enter the middle of November we are definitely seeing a different situation than we have been the past few years. The recent cold snap has area lakes frozen over and most boat landings are out of commission with the exception of a few on the river. There have been a few guys venturing out on the ice, but we are in no way promoting ice fishing just yet. We have the 2018 nine day gun deer season starting this weekend, and with recent DNR reports of a strong herd, hunters are excitedly anticipating a good season.
I have been out hunting a few times myself this past week and I can tell you from what I have seen the deer numbers are very good in most areas, and I had the opportunity to harvest a very nice mature 8 point buck. I attribute my success to the knowledge and proper use of a combination doe bleat and a buck grunt to bring this nice buck into shooting range. All it took was a couple of properly timed calls to bring him into range, and with a perfectly placed shot from my compound bow, the buck only went 45 yards.
I hope that everyone has a safe and successful gun deer season, and if you decide to hit the hard water this weekend please use extreme caution, there is plenty of winter left!
