Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Well a little rain and some cooler temperatures really makes a difference.  The walleye bite is getting better and better by the day as well as the action for muskies really turning on.  Water temperatures have finally fallen to the mid 50 degree range and should continue that downward slope as we head further into fall.  Deer hunters are starting to get that “itch” as the rut approaches and with only about 3 weeks until prime rutting activity takes place we are on the doorstep on what could be one of the best deer seasons we have seen in years.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Anglers looking at getting on some of this fantastic fall fishing can target walleyes, crappies, bass, and bluegill for action. Guys looking for a little more excitement are typically going to chase after musky and pike.  With plenty of great fishing locations around the central Wisconsin area it can be hard to decide where to go.  A simple rule of thumb that I go by is, if the water is high and fast I target backwater areas and main lake locations. If we are in a dry period with little or no rain and the river is low I target the main river channel and the edges of major current breaks, as these are places that will typically hold fish under these conditions.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

As far as catching your targeted species right now you cannot go wrong with live bait. But don’t get caught in that live bait trap because there will be days when crankbaits and soft plastics can and will out produce any live bait presentation.

Have a great week,
