Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

On Wisconsin Outdoors On Wisconsin Outdoors

This week has been warm and busy in central Wisconsin.  The fishing has been outstanding and the bear baits are getting regularly hit by multiple bears and some good ones too.   With water temperatures in the low to mid 80’s we have focused on targeting walleyes, bass, and panfish this past week along with us picking up a few catfish.  Action has been very good for all species despite the warm temperatures but the really surprising one is the walleyes.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

We have been having a great week catching not only numbers of walleyes but some really good ones too.  In addition to the great walleye fishing the panfish and bass have been very active with limit catches on every trip. Most of the fish that we are catching have been caught by us fishing submerged wood along predominantly shaded shorelines in 4 to 8 FOW.  For detecting bites and pulling these feisty fish out of this type of heavy structure you need a good strong rod with a sensitive tip and a good strong backbone. My new 6’10 Medium Light Elk River Rod has worked flawlessly in not only picking up the subtle bites, but it has enough backbone to haul even the stingiest of fish out of the thick wood structure.

With less than 3 weeks until the 2018 bear season opener our bear baits are looking very good with some really nice bears regularly visiting them.  A lot of the photos that we are getting of the bears on our trail cameras are right at dusk along with some at dawn, but we are seeing more and more daytime photos as we get closer to season.  I believe the key to some of our success has been diversification in our baits.  We are changing up things regularly to keep the bears interested and by placing our baits in locations that are easily accessible to the bears.

Have a great week,
