Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

Quite a few walleyes and bass have come across the bow of my boat this past week with several of them real dandies.  We have also seen some very good crappie and pike fishing this past week as well.  Water temperatures spiked last weekend and some areas were pushing the 80 degree mark, but it has toned down a bit and we are holding steady at around 72 degrees.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Walleyes have been extremely active this past week and anglers are catching quite a few of them jigging deeper timber and contour breaks in 8 to 12 feet of water.  We are running 1/8th ounce lead head jigs tipped with half a crawler as opposed to running the jigs tipped with fat head minnows as we were earlier in the year when the water temperatures were cooler.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Bass anglers are taking advantage of the warmer temperatures and the topwater bite has really turned on. Chug bugs get the nod as do Jitterbugs for picking up some of these feisty aerobic bass.  We are targeting shallow rocks and wood in 1 to 5 feet of water as well as areas with some current to find the bass.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Crappie anglers will be happy to hear that we have been finding good numbers of fish in 12 to 16 feet of water holding 2 to 6 feet off the bottom. Slip bobbers are working well but drift fishing while spider-rigging has been providing the best results.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

If you are looking for some aggressive fish like musky and pike, anglers have been picking up a few good fish targeting weeds and wood in 3 to 6 feet of water.  Baits like Spinners, gliders, and topwater baits are all working well for pulling fish out of these types of areas.

We have been out bear baiting a few times and our baits are getting hit by several nice bears. The only problem right now are the numerous ticks and mosquitoes. So if you are headed out to the woods be prepared to spray down with some sort of insect repellent before heading out.

Have a great week,
