Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

Opening weekend of fishing has arrived and with the great weather we are having a lot of people are hitting the water.  The water temperatures are right around 50 degrees which is a little cooler that it was a few weeks ago but its ramping back up. Anglers can expect to find crappies in shallow water locations preparing to spawn, walleyes will be in both deep water locations and shallow water areas, bass are still holding in deep water for the most part, and for you “southern area” musky guys, look for shallow water locations with any weeds and or structure that might hold a lurking fish.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

We have had a great week of fishing on the Wisconsin River system, which by the way remains open year round for most game species.  Our crappie bite has been phenomenal with lots of good eating fish in the 10 to 13 inch range being caught. The walleye bite has been steady with most of our fish being caught on a jig and minnow combination in deep water.  If you are looking for the larger walleyes we have been picking up a few good ones while working shallow water structure and shoreline areas with crankbaits.  We have even seen quite a bit of activity from muskies so far this year. In the past week alone we picked up 6 muskies on a jig and minnow while targeting walleyes.  If this is any indication to how the season is going to be, it looks like it is going to be a very good one for muskies.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Turkey season is in full swing and now that the weather has stabilized a bit the birds are becoming a bit more predictable. If haven’t had a chance to get out and fill your tag there are still a lot of great hunting opportunities left for bagging your bird.

Have a great week,
