Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

With the temperatures stabilizing this past week we have seen a surge in activity from some really big fish. Not that we haven’t been catching big fish already this year but this past week some real giants have made their way to the boat.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

If you are into really big fresh water fishing the musky activity has gone through the roof and the big girls are on the prowl. We not only saw several really nice fish but Mary Kiedrowski hooked into and landed a real monster that was over 4 feet long.  We have been having really good action on bucktails and topwater as well as a few fish on jerkbaits.  Most of the fish we are seeing are in water less than 5 feet deep and associated with wood or weeds.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

The walleye bite remains very strong with some really nice catches of eater sized fish in the 16 to 20 inch range.  In addition to catching nice eater sized fish we are literally catching hundreds of fish in the 12 to 15 inch range along with some really nice slot fish over 20 inches.  Most of our walleyes are being caught on lead head jigs tipped with fathead minnows but now as the water temperatures are increasing we have seen the start of the switch-over to more of a night crawler bite.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

In addition to all of the walleyes that we are catching we are also picking up some incidental catches of crappies, bass, northern pike and catfish. These are all fun fish to catch and some of them make for great table fare.

Bear baiting continues to be on point with good bear activity continuing at our bait stations. We are seeing quite a bit of nighttime activity but we are getting some daytime action as well. We will continue to proceed with baiting as planned and as season continues I can assure you that a lot of the nocturnal action will turn to daytime activity.

Have a great week,
