Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

This past week has been very good for all species of fish.

We had a great time on the Winnebago system chasing walleyes, crappies and white bass for the Battle on Bago.  We ended up catching quite a few nice walleyes, a 14 inch crappie, and a pile of white bass. The key to finding our fish amongst the thousands of anglers was our Humminbird electronics.  We were able to download our Lake Master chip to our unit to find a secluded location over a mile away from the nearest group of people.  We actually found a tiny pocket of deeper water that was on the map.  Now this pocket was no larger than half a football field but it held plenty of fish for us and our group to key in all day long.  The nice thing is that it was far away from the “crowd and we didn’t have to worry about other anglers.

For fishing on other area inland lakes the panfish bite has been very good with limit catches of bluegills, crappies and perch.  The crappies and bluegills have been holding in shallow weeds in anywhere from 3 to 8 feet of water, and are hitting on the Northland Tungsten banana jig tipped with either spikes or waxies.   The perch have been in the deeper basin areas of the lakes that we have been fishing and are in anywhere from 14 to 28 feet of water. The most productive method we have found so far for catching the perch is jigging the Northland buckshot rattle spoons that have been tipped with a minnow head or a few waxies.

The fifth annual Wisconsin Musky Expo will be held next Friday through Sunday, March 6 to 8, at the Central Wisconsin Convention and Expo Center in Rothschild.  Stop on down and visit some of the vendors and see what is new for the 2015 season.  Make sure that while you’re there that you visit the guys (Marc and Chris) at the Elk River Rod Booth. They have some of the best rods on the market and they will be offering show special all weekend long.

With the warmer weather starting to move in, now is also a great time to start thinking about shed hunting for deer antlers.  As the snow starts to melt it will give you access to remaining deer antlers that have been dropped over the winter months in know local wintering areas and locations that deer have been frequently associating.

As most of you know I have been working with Kwik Trip the past year and I have received a lot of great support from them and wonderful comments. I am now adding a new section to the weekly reports for special offers from Kwik Trip.  They offer great discounts and specials “usually free stuff” that you will receive on your phone on a regular basis.  Please "Text KWIK to 75309 for special offers on your phone"

Have a great week,
