NSSF Debuts NewFirearms Industry Jobs Resource

NSSF CAREER CENTER OPENS NEW DOORS . . . NSSF today debuted a new online job resource designed to help members of the firearms industry recruit qualified professionals and job seekers locate potential employers. This expanded and improved platform replaces the existing job posting service offered by NSSF. Unmatched job listing exposure, easy online job management, résumé search and résumé uploading for job seekers gives NSSF members and non-members more opportunities than ever before. Government Relations

  • COLORADO ENACTS FAMILIES AFIELD LAW . . . Colorado is the 38th state since 2006 to enact Families Afield legislation, allowing those 10 and older to acquire an apprentice certificate to hunt accompanied by an adult mentor. A model of cooperative effort, Families Afield was founded by NSSF, the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance and National Wild Turkey Federation. The NRA and Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation also provide support to the initiative.
  • ATF NOTICE ON eFORM 6A ISSUES . . . ATF has confirmed that there is currently a problem with the electronic Form 6A and users may receive a "Permit Not Found" error. ATF has also determined that the system is not allowing users to verify import permits with firearm line items if the quantity is greater than 127. If you receive one of these errors, please submit a paper copy of the Form 6A to the Firearms & Explosives Imports Branch (FEIB). Questions regarding this matter can be directed to FEIB at (304) 616-4550.
  • LEGISLATVE AND LEGAL ROUNDUP . . . In the nation's capital, U.S. Rep. Mark Walker (R.-N.C.) is urging two House committees to work together and press for answers on "Operation Choke Point," the initiative that has unfairly targeted law-abiding businesses without evidence of criminal activity, while the District of Columbia's administration continues to stall over implementing court-ordered changes to the city's concealed carry permit system. In the states, the North Carolina Senate passed a limited Sunday hunting bill. Read NSSF's Government Relations Update for more.

  • ANNUAL IMPORT/EXPORT CONFERENCE REGISTRATION OPENS . . . To help federal firearms license holders and other members of industry stay on top of federal laws and regulations that govern the import and export of firearms and related products, the 2015 Import/Export Conference, a joint presentation of NSSF and the FAIR Trade Group, will take place Aug. 4-5 at the Renaissance Washington, D.C., Downtown.Learn more and register today.

  • NSSF-ADJUSTED NICS BACKGROUND CHECKS . . . The May 2015 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 918,707 is the second highest May on record for the 17-year-old system, with an increase of 4.7 percent compared to the May 2014 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 877,655. For comparison, the unadjusted May 2015 NICS figure of 1,570,893 reflects a 6.4 percent increase from the unadjusted NICS figure of 1,476,318 in May 2014.   • USFWS RELEASES 2012-13 HUNTING LICENSE REPORTS . . .Hunting License Sales data for 2013 has just been released by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) indicating that paid licenses increased 1.7 percent over 2012. For a timelier update of license data, NSSF commissions a quarterly Hunting License Sales Index Report.Log in under NSSF Industry Research to access quarterly reports from 2009 thru 2015-Q1 as well as USFWS reports for 2012 and 2013.

  • ATF Q&A . . . Every week many great questions come in on our NSSF member compliance hotline. This hotline is free to our members and available 24/7. The first question asks what an FFL should do when requested to trace a firearm. The second question asks if a NICS background check expires 30 days from when the check was initiated, or from when a "proceed" is issued.   • SEMINARS SLATED IN ARKANSAS AND VIRGINIA THIS MONTH . . . Two NSSF Retailer Education Seminars are scheduled this month: June 16 in Little Rock, Arkansas, and June 23 in Fairfax, Virginia. All firearms retailers in these regions are encouraged toregister to attend.

  • PROJECT CHILDSAFE TOPS 1,100 SUPPORTER ORGANIZATIONS . . . NSSF announced as of May 29 that more than 1,100 organizations have joined with NSSF to promote Project ChildSafe.Notable new supporters in just the past month include FFL Guard, National 4-H Shooting Sports, the World Safety Training Institute, Orchid Advisors and Providence Hospital of Southfield, Michigan, among numerous other sporting goods retailers, hunter education and law enforcement organizations. Read the press release.
  • POWA RECOGNIZES TOP WRITERS . . . At its spring conference awards dinner May 16, the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association presented its annual Excellence in Craft Awards. Outdoor columnist Steve Sorensen captured five awards, including the Best Book Award for his "Growing Up With Guns" and the Hunting/Shooting Sports Award, sponsored by NSSF, for "This is More Fun than Golf," a column published in the Forest Press and the Olean Times Herald.
