NSSF CONTINUES EXPORT CONTROL EFFORT . . . Even though Congress is away for the elections, NSSF continues to work to advance legislation to transfer export licensing and enforcement oversight of sporting and commercial firearms to the Commerce Department from the State Department. The Export Control Reform Act of 2016, H.R. 6176  and S. 3405, was developed in consultation with NSSF.

  • The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced a final rule to expand opportunities for hunting and sport fishing on 13 national wildlife refuges. The final rule also modifies existing refuge-specific regulations for more than 70 additional refuges and wetland management districts.
  • Safari Club International reports positive results for wildlife conservation at the recent CITES 17th Conference of the Parties in Johannesburg, South Africa, including decisions on lions and hunting trophies.
  • The South Carolina Outdoor Press Association last month presented its Pat Robertson Lifetime Achievement Award to Jim Casada for his body of work related to the outdoors at the organization's annual conference in Edgefield.
  • The National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW) has announced its Leadership Awards nominees in six categories. The winners will be named during the NASGW Expo Oct. 25 in Kansas City, Missouri.
