Ashland County Fishing Report

June 14, 2018

Carolyn from Anglers all reports: Everything is happening right now and fishing has been turned on in the Bay. Small Mouth are in spawning and post spawning mode; primarily in the Sand Cut, Brush Point, and Oak Point Area. Along with the Small Mouth you will find Walleyes, Northerns, and Perch. People targeting Brown Trout and Lake Trout at times are fishing the 1st break using stick baits and also are going deeper for the Lake Trout using flutter spoons or spin-n-glos off of down riggers or dipsy divers or lead core. Anglers are targeting Walleyes in the shallows using night crawlers on crawler harnesses or jigs and they are also trolling the shallows and the channel with stick baits. People are fishing for Northerns on the Ashland shoreline. Trout and Salmon trolling has been productive, mainly in the channel and from Washburn north using shallow running stick baits.

Scott Bretting from River Rock reports: There are more boaters and anglers on the Bay now. It appears people have their boats ready for summer on the Bay. Trolling on the surface has been great in the Chequamegon Bay. The water temps are starting to warm up. There have been some nice Northerns being caught in the Bay. The Bass are getting up in the shallower water and are in mid-spawning mode. Bass anglers have had luck using tube jigs. Some nice size Walleye's are being caught in front of the Kakagon Sloughs area and the Sand Cut areas. Anglers have been fishing on the end of the Ore Dock base and the end of the light house and catching a mixed bag of fish, including Perch, Northerns, and Rock Bass. Drifting and trolling for Walleyes using crawler harnesses and leaches has been successful. Coho's have been biting in the Sioux River and Onion River areas. Fish are starting to move into deeper water. Fishing in the Bay has been great. Lake Trout and Brown Trout fishing has been good in the south channel using down riggers and dipsy divers.
