Ashland Area Fishing Report for Oct. 22, 2015
~ Fishing guides Roger LaPenter and Luke Kavajecz from Anglers All, 715/682-5754, report the following:
This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay. It’s trophy season for smallmouth bass and they are definitely into their fall feeding patterns, frequenting their typical haunts such as the breakwall and around the marina.
“Water temperatures seem to be dropping on a daily basis now,” noted Carolyn Swartz, co-owner of Anglers All in Ashland. “The smallies are in their fall spots and have become a little more consistent in their habits. They are starting to school more and become more active.”
Although the smallmouth bass will stay out in the deeper water, the cool fall weather will be a boon to trout and salmon fishermen. The coho salmon are around off and on in the streams and at the mouths of rivers.
“Expect more trout and salmon to be moving towards the river mouths and into the rivers if we get the upcoming predicted rain,” Carolyn said.
Walleye have been around in the same places they’ve been catching the smallmouth, out by the rock pile and around the “Pamida hump,” she added.
Folks are still going after muskie on the region’s inland lakes and rivers. “This is a great time of year for a drift-boat trip in search of those toothy critters,” according to fishing guide Luke Kavajecz of Anglers All.
“The water in the streams is low and clear right now, which makes fishing tough,” Carolyn said. “But we will see more browns and steelhead moving in as soon as we get some rain.”
