Alice in Dairyland to cut Christmas tree in Dodge County on Nov. 13
MADISON – The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) invites media professionals to join 68th Alice in Dairyland, Teyanna Loether, and Dodge County students as Loether cuts down a Christmas tree Friday, Nov. 13, 11 a.m., at Propst Christmas Trees, N6796 Thompson Rd., Beaver Dam.
Dodge County area 4th graders were invited to submit a persuasive piece detailing why their class should be among those selected to attend the tree cutting with Alice. The selected students will spend a portion of the morning learning about Wisconsin agriculture and the Christmas tree industry prior to the ceremonial tree cutting.
The Christmas tree cutting by Alice in Dairyland is an annual tradition held each year on a different tree farm. Alice in Dairyland is a contract employee of DATCP and serves one year as Wisconsin’s agricultural ambassador educating media, students and communities about the state’s $88 billion agriculture industry.
This event will be one of many in the next several months in Dodge County leading up to the selection of the 69th Alice in Dairyland May 5-7, 2016.
Wisconsin is the nation’s sixth-largest Christmas tree producer, with an annual harvest of more than 600,000 trees valued at more than $12.5 million. There are more than 850 Christmas tree farms in the state, covering more than 23,600 acres.
