Agency to develop analysis on industrial sand mining
MADISON - The Department of Natural Resources will seek public input and
update a 2012 report as part of a broader agency strategic analysis on
industrial sand mining, staff reported to the state Natural Resources Board
today.
Department staff presented the information in response to a petition brought
before the board by citizens and Midwest Environmental Advocates, requesting
the department "conduct a strategic analysis" under NR 150, Wis. Adm. Code.
Under state code, the department will seek public input on what topics
should be addressed in the report. The analysis process also includes a
public comment period and review of a draft report before the final document
is presented to the Natural Resources Board.
DNR staff members reported to the board they anticipate beginning to seek
public input on the scope of the analysis in February and March. A timeline
for completion of the report will be established after the scoping process
is complete.
