After vandalism strikes, Wisconsin DNR donates 110 young pheasants to Richland Center High School

MADISON - After vandalism led to the death of a number of pheasant chicks at Richland Center High School, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources donated 110 young pheasants from the State Game Farm in Poynette, Wis.

School programs with a wildlife emphasis, like those found at RCHS, set the stage for many kids to pursue a career in conservation.

“We were more than happy to help out - these types of school programs provide a great experience for students and really do wonders for getting kids interested in the outdoors,” said DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp.

You can view a short video highlighting this great partnership between RCHS and the department here.

After students raise the young birds, they will be released on wildlife areas throughout Richland County. RCHS students and staff will work closely with the department and local conservation groups to make sure the birds reach the woods in healthy form.

For more information regarding pheasants in Wisconsin and the State Game Farm, search keywords “pheasant” and “state game farm.”

As a reminder, please be sure to report any wildlife violations. The DNR tip hotline number is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and anyone who calls the hotline or provides information can remain anonymous. To report a violation, please call 1-800-847-9367, text TIP-411 (847411), or send an email tole.hotline@wisconsin.gov.
