ATTENTION Ruffed Grouse Hunters! We need your help

This fall, will you help monitor

the health of Wisconsin's ruffed grouse?

For the second year, the DNR asks you to help monitor West Nile virus in ruffed grouse as part of a three-year study in collaboration with the Minnesota and Michigan DNRs, the Ruffed Grouse Society and the Wisconsin Conservation Congress.

The DNR has assembled 500 self-sampling kits for ruffed grouse hunters to use in 2019. Each WNV kit contains detailed instructions and all the supplies needed to collect and ship one sample. (If you have a leftover, unused kit from 2018, we encourage you to fill that kit this year.)

Kits are available through your county wildlife biologist and are available for pickup in early September. To ensure samples come from a large geographic area, we may limit the number of kits per individual.

We wish you a great season in the grouse woods and thank you for supporting Wisconsin wildlife!
