A safe hunt is a good hunt!

A safe hunt is a good hunt!

Part of my annual hunting tradition is to refresh myself with the four basic rules of firearm safety. I hope that you will do the same.

I use the acronym “TAB-K” to help me remember. That stands for:

  • T (Treat every firearm as if it is loaded)
  • A (Always point the muzzle in a safe direction)
  • B (Be certain of your target and what's beyond)
  • K (Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot)

Wisconsin’s 9-day gun-deer season is safe and getting safer, thanks to hunters’ increased vigilance and the efforts of volunteer instructors and conservation wardens to help hunters learn basic hunting safety skills.

I hope you will take a moment before opening day to watch this short video reminder about hunting safely and visit our featured safety web page for important information on hunting safely.

Please make TAB-K part of your hunting tradition.

A successful hunt is a safe hunt.
