5-12-14 Price County Fishing Report

It's been a little soggy in the North Woods the last couple of weeks but battling the high water between rain drops has been rewarding most anglers with good fishing.

Our guides at Ross's Sport Shop are in the Walleye mode right now and the Walleye are treating our clients right, our boats have been averaging 30 walleyes per 4 hour trip with some clients pushing the 60 fish mark in just a half of day on the water. Fishing is great right now as hungry smaller male walleye seem to be everywhere and willing to bite. We are doing best in 5 to 12 feet of water, Jig and fathead minnows have been the top producer in all of our boats. For my clients that have a hard time working a jig I have been putting it under a slip bobber and setting it so the jig is just off the bottom so it actually bounces off of any rocks or higher points on the lake bottom. Make sure that you watch the moon charts because there have been some awesome mid day bites.

The Crappie bite has been ok for us as well, We have been getting a lot of bonus Crappie in our boat while fishing for Walleye. The Crappie are staging in 8 to 15 feet of water right now not far from their spawning areas. Anglers that are targeting Crappie are doing well with jigs and plastics like Sliders or Gulp. Look for Crappie to move to the shallow wood if we ever get a couple sunny days in a row to warm the shallow waters.

We have been finding Bluegill also in the 8 to 15 foot of water range as they wait for the shallow water temps to warm enough for the spawn. Just a simple 1/32 ounce jig head with a chunk of crawler on it has been taking some nice sized gills in my boat.

Get out there and fish!!!
