2-7-14 Sturgeon spearing updates
Dear Winnebago System Sturgeon Spearers and Sturgeon Enthusiasts:
The sturgeon spearing season on the Winnebago Pool Lakes gets underwaytomorrow and excitement is in the air, and that is an understatement! I just wanted to bring some things to your attention leading up to the season.
The DNR will be sending out updates via twitter during the season. I have been granted access to our DNR twitter account and plan to use this media to provide brief updates of when very large fish are being registered at stations. So don't miss a second of it! Get real-time updates about this year's big fish by following us on Twitter (twitter.com/wdnr) and Facebook (facebook.com). Use #sturgeon 2014 and share your photos and experiences!
The documentary the Frozen Chosen premiered last night in Fond du Lac and I must say, Steve Boettcher and crew did a fantastic job on this video. It is a must see for all people who are interested in the culture of sturgeon spearing. The documentary will be aired on Milwaukee Public Television Monday and Thursday nights (February 10 and 13). The link below will take you to more up to date information on the documentary and the broadcast. I recommend planning to see it or at least record it.

Similar to last year, I will be sending out email summary reports at the conclusion of each spearing date. These emails will contain the up to date harvest information and the overall highlights of each day. I will also be updating the sturgeon hotline daily, so feel free to call that as well (920)303-5444.
Have a safe and enjoyable sturgeon spearing season! Just remember a sport like this does not take place anywhere else in the world.
