Washburn County Fishing and Outdoor Report

According to the Wisconsin DNR, weather across the state last week from the 70’s at the beginning of the week, to 30’s and 40’s by the end of the week. Small amounts of snow were reported in the far north, with more in the short-term forecast. Expect more of the same weather next week.
The Wisconsin DNR says whitetail deer are moving into the rut. Rutting activity will be nearing its peak now and into the early weeks of November. Buck scrapes are being found and deer movement has increased significantly. It’s that time of the year where if you see one deer, you will probably see more.
Barb of AAA Sports in Spooner says there have been several nice deer hides come in, and hunters showing off their pictures. One that came through was a non-typical 12 point that weighed close to 235 pounds. Everyone seems to be seeing more deer than the last couple years. Barb also reminds you to site in your guns because rifle season will be here before you know it!
As for the fishing side of things… Musky fishing is currently the best it's been all year! Jim Stroede says the colder weather has triggered the fish into a feeding frenzy. They've been catching Muskies nearly every time out. Most of the fish are coming on live suckers or by jigging. The current water temps are in the upper 40's.
Barb also added that the weather is more in line with rifle season than fall archery or fishing. There were still a few brave souls out on the lakes over the weekend with the snow coming down.
