Celebrate Rebuilding of the Wisconsin River Recreational Bridge and Trail in Sauk City; Official Wisconsin National Tourism Week Event

Sauk City, WI - April 24, 2025 – On Thursday, May 8, at 2:00 PM, business and government leaders from Sauk and Dane Counties, alongside national, state and local dignitaries, will come together to celebrate the rebuilding of the Wisconsin River Recreational Bridge and Trail in a special connection event. It will be held in the 1200 block of Water Street, Sauk City, Wisconsin, the historic site of a crucial Wisconsin railroad crossing, and will be an official stop for the Wisconsin Department of Tourism team as part of “National Tourism Week” celebrating the state’s hospitality and travel industry.

The reconstruction of this vital bridge represents a significant step towards linking two of Wisconsin’s most picturesque trails: the Great Sauk State Trail and the upcoming Walking Iron Trail in Dane County, both of which span the scenic Wisconsin River.

“Today marks a pivotal moment in enhancing regional connectivity and fostering outdoor recreation for our communities,” states Tim McCumber, Chair of the Sauk County Board of Supervisors. “This bridge's reconstruction will not only improve access for trail enthusiasts but also solidifies the vital link between Sauk and Dane Counties.”

The kickoff ceremony will begin promptly at 2:00 PM with remarks from speakers representing the State of Wisconsin, officials from Sauk and Dane Counties and passionate, local advocates of the trail system. After the presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy light refreshments, capture memorable photos and receive an exclusive preview of the bridge's innovative design and construction plans.

“The Wisconsin River Recreational Bridge stands as a testament to our commitment to community health, environmental stewardship, county-wide economic growth and the rich heritage of our region,” says Heidi Koch, Sauk City Village Administrator. “This bridge’s reconstruction, both in structure and spirit, reflects the extensive collaboration and planning among diverse stakeholders who have worked together toward this goal for over two decades.”

Community members, trail enthusiasts and media representatives are strongly encouraged to attend this landmark event, which underscores the dedication to enhancing outdoor recreational experiences in Wisconsin.
