Shooting Straight

1-17-2013

In the last few days, we’ve posted a large amount of material under “Firearms”, “Outdoor News” “Ice Fishing” “Inland Fishing” and several of our hunting pages.

Our firearms activity heated up significantly not only because this administration by admission never lets a crisis be wasted, but right now the SHOT (Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade) show is underway in Las Vegas and “On Wisconsin Outdoors” is being pounded with media releases from the shooting sports industry on location, many of which introduce new firearms or other products.

The news items, and many other articles related to firearms, are all posted for your review, including:

The 23 Executive Orders specific to gun control signed by President Obama Wednesday and, an editorial by Jim Ellis that challenges the administration’s real motives. Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke says President Obama's proposals for curbing gun violence are meaningless and called them an emotional reaction to the Connecticut shootings. And, an Oregon Sheriff and other public officials say they will not enforce any federal regulations that Obama laid out in his package of gun controls. Also, a statement from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) in response to the Biden Commission recommendations following Sandy Hook.

And, new product lines introduced from Konus and Winchester’s innovative AA Tracker that enables the shooter to literally “see what you’ve been missing.”

Also, Walther Arms launches a new website for its products, Genesis Pattern Technologies announces a partnership with Chiappa Firearms, Kahr Arms introduces the CW380 ACP pistol, Laxco introduces the world’s first fully automated SmartScope, Magellen launches the Explorist 350 H GPS for hunters, Glock unveils its new 30S pistol model, and Rock Island Armory previews their industry standard-setting TCM 22 centerfire rifle.

Also, see RAC’s new security system to protect your firearms, and let’s not forget our weekly Everyday Carry column by Robb Manning and this week’s no-doubt controversial article entitled War Games by OWO columnist John Luthens.

Showtime is just heating up. The All-Canada Show schedule is down to two stops in Wisconsin. Milwaukee, starting today at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex, Jan. 17-20 and Green Bay, ShopKo Hall, Jan. 24-27. Connect with www.allcanadashow.com for details.

The Wisconsin State Hunting Expo will be held February 22-24 at Shopko Hall in Green Bay, featuring Pat Reeve and Nicole Jones from Driven TV and indoor pop-up 3-D Archery Shoot. On March 1-3, the Northeast Wisconsin Sport Fishin’ Show will be held at its new home of Players Choice of the Fox Cities, with $20,000 in door prizes given away. Connect with www.greenbaysportshows.com or 920-434-7469 for information.

Mark March 6 through 9 on your calendars for the Wisconsin Decoy and Collectibles Show at the Hilton Garden Inn in Oshkosh. For more information contact Ludwig at RogFuzz@charter.net or 920-233-0349. We’ll be posting complete information on these shows and more in the coming weeks.

The 2013 Wisconsin Sport Show featuring outdoor presentations and demonstrations, exhibitor marketplace and special guests and attractions will be held Friday through Sunday, March 15-17 at the Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center. Connect with www.wisportshow.com.

Don’t forget …our “Outdoor News”, “Inland Fishing”, and “Ice Fishing” and other pages are posted daily with new items. Arnold Groehler’s next two trapping columns are well underway and will be posted soon.  And, we post hunting and fishing column from January of 2004 under “Dick’s Trips” including a deep water perch assault on Lake Mendota. That game will start again very soon in Madison.

Contacted January 17, 2013, D&S Bait owner Gene Dill in Madison said that ice conditions on Mendota are not yet ready for anglers, but he expects a good perch season based on last year’s open water action.

“They won’t be as big as we’ve seen them, but we’re expecting to see a lot of perch in the nine-inch class,” he said.

Thanks for connecting with On Wisconsin Outdoors.  Shoot straight.  Shoot often.
