Show Time in Wisconsin, OWO Off Presses
OWO is off the presses Friday morning with our March-April issue, and I will be a paper boy. I’ll take a load to our booth at the Wisconsin State Hunting Expo which runs from February 27 through March 1st at Shopko Hall in Green Bay. I will also be delivering papers throughout southeast Wisconsin. Pick up your copy at any Kwik Trip store statewide, and seriously, wait until you see the Kwik Trip ads with great prices on bacon and a whole bunch of seafood selections. If you can’t carry it all jam the donuts under your shirt (after you pay) like I do. If you do that with a roller wait until you hit the truck to apply the mustard and ketchup (like I didn’t). Also snag a paper in any of 44 Menards stores (ask where they are) or a bunch of other Wisconsin businesses.
Starting next week, look for insert advertising in your On Wisconsin Outdoors spotlighting some of the Spring specials offered at Dave’s Turf & Marine in Watertown in particular for Princecraft Boats and John Deere lawn equipment. We’re waiting a few days before printing and inserting those because John Deere doesn’t even announce some of their sweetest deals for spring until March 2nd or 3rd . Dave and Leni Kahler, and the whole crew at Dave’s Turf & Marine are people you will want to deal with if you find what you’re looking for; very good and trustworthy people. Speaking of a great show, the Waterfowl USA Southern Wisconsin Chapter will hold its 31st Annual Banquet Thursday, April 2 at Coachman’s Inn and Golf Resort, 984 County Truck A, Edgerton, WI 53534. Proceeds from the show will support waterfowl and wildlife habitat conservation projects throughout southern Wisconsin, according to Banquet Chairman and this reporter’s longtime friend, Bob Kurtz.
Every 10th door prize will give away a gun and 26 guns will be given away. If 100 people attend, that’s some pretty good odds. Doors open at 5:00 with dinner at 6:30. The $65 ticket which can be purchased at the door or ordered includes dinner, chapter membership, and door prize drawings. The banquet will include 6 major gun raffles, framed prints, sculptures, decoys, hunting gear and many more “one of kind items”. Auction, bucket raffles, door prizes and walk-through raffles are also part of the fun.

The 2015 Deer & Turkey Expo will be held April 10, 11, and 12 at the Alliant Energy Center, 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way, Madison. According to Wisconsin outdoor writer and show promoter Dan Durbin of Bast-Durbin Associates, new highlights for 2015 include shed antler contest (whitetail deer only) and home defense, wild game cooking and ammo reloading demonstrations.
See 590 exhibit booths, big whitetail bucks in the Budweiser trophy big game contest, daily scouting, hunting, and habitat management seminars, hands-on shooting ranges and booths, Byron Ferguson archery trick shooting performances, and live-game animals and predators.

Isn’t Wisconsin a great place to get lost outdoors? Last summer I was the beneficiary of some great guiding by guide/OWO writer Dave Duwe on Delavan for bluegills and OWO writer and friend Jim Olsson on Winnebago throwing crankbaits for walleyes.
