OWO September-October Issue Ushers in Hunting Seasons

May I take a break from editing the September-October 2014 issue of On Wisconsin Outdoors ready to hit the shelves across Wisconsin August 29 to focus on this week’s Blog?  What should we talk about?  I know!  How about the September-October 2014 issue of On Wisconsin Outdoors?  By the way, this issue ushering in the hunting seasons but still with a boatload of fishing stories from our experts and features like Recipes by Suzette,  Cochran cartoons, Product 6-Pack, and Badger Birds, will also be posted next week on this website homepage for the online reader.

Pick your poison; it’s just as good in print or via the electronic read.  But, if you’re like me and like the feel of a newspaper in your hands, pick it up for free in any of 252 Kwik Trip stores or any of 44 Menards stores.  Look in the Camping-Fishing aisle at Menards.  Look on the paper shelves or just ask at Kwik Trip but, they do go fast.  Find Kwik Trip and Menards locations and our other pick-up points on the homepage at www.onwisconsinoutdoors.com. Don’t forget to connect often too with Kwik Trip Outdoors.

I this is a very good issue, thanks to our professional outdoor writers and guides and once again, increased advertising from all kinds of companies from local Wisconsin businesses to national giants. Henry Rifles is shipping their first rifles built in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.  Wendy Struble Coldwell Banker showcases 159 acres of fantastic hunting land and a hunting lodge/corporate retreat (or family home) in west central Wisconsin that you will have to see (below) to believe or visit http://loghome.vpweb.com. If you can’t wait for the paper connect with wendy@cbrivervalley.com or 608-633-0465. Thanks for thanking our many advertisers with your own business.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Below is a sneak peek of September-October, although the issue is jam- packed and you may find several of the stories listed on our website due to the limited space.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Lee Gatzke shows you how to self-film your own deer hunt using his early mistakes as a guide too of what you shouldn’t do. About the time you read just how to do it right, we’ll also be posting Gatzke’s self-made video of his recent archery kill. The buck, as you see, is a real beauty.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Tom Carpenter introduces us to Teal Time, with the Wisconsin’s first experimental season slated to begin the first week in September. Carpenter also states the case for the first season in Wisconsin for crossbows.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

In addition to other duck hunting features, we have bear hunting, wolf hunting, and more deer hunts. S. Wilkerson and Robb Manning do their usual great job bringing you firearms columns on concealed carry and building your own AR-15.

There was such response from primarily older sportsmen to our recent hip replacement article that we bring you another “Stay in the Field” feature by Steve Ellis on knee replacements. We know you’re out there.  We know you hurt. We show you the first steps to a pain free return to the field.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Fishing doesn’t take a back seat.  Hunter’s like me just moved our fishing features to the back pages.  It’s September man!  Share the spotlight with us field boys. Or is it we field boys? I knew I shouldn’t be the editor.

Anyway, read a Mike Yurk Bassology column, transition to autumn walleye tactics with Joel DeBoer, find tools and tips for cold water crappies with Dave Duwe, hot spots for fall river bass with Glenn Walker, and listen as Wisconsin River master angler Phil Schweik picks his best lures for fall muskies.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

We also have John Luthens traveling to the Wind River Range of western Wyoming with his flyrod, and John Lindeman hunting Native American artifacts and learning the ropes from his dad and friend on just how to find treasures hundreds or even thousands of years old.  And, OWO veteran Jerry Kiesow leaves the trout stream for just one issue to take a DNR –sponsored advanced shotgun education class focused on knocking down and recovering more waterfowl. A worthy goal for any wing-shooter.

I think you will like this. And we certainly appreciate your company.

Thanks for connecting with On Wisconsin Outdoors.

Shoot Straight.
