Kids Fish
A great time was had by all at the Bob Ellis Classic last Saturday; a no-money, no worry, Vilas County row trolling musky tournament in honor of our late, great, Hall of Fame angling uncle who left us too early. We’ll have photos and complete results next week. I will say that the father-son team of John and Dave Morton won the Classic with a beautiful 40 inch musky caught and released on Presque Isle and Bill Beno took second with a 30 inch fish. Several good fish were lost. I will say also that Kevin Wallenfang, Geoff Crandall and Steve Reinstra did a fabulous job once again of organizing the Classic from start to finish. The Ellis family appreciates it.
Dave Morton and his father, John, led the pack with this 40 inch musky.
In addition to our great Wisconsin Kwik Trip stores, don’t forget that any O’Reilly Auto Parts store in the state now carries On Wisconsin Outdoors for you. We appreciate both of these corporate favorites for partnering with us. In the meantime, when you’re in those stores, they appreciate your business.
I will be heading north to row troll with Lori again this weekend in Boulder Junction, but thought I would send some of the fishing photos received this week from our guides and writers, their clients, and some of the kids in our own family. Send your kid’s photo and his or her catch to ellis@onwisconsinoutdoors.com. We’ll post them right here for you.
Austin and CJ Stankowski fell into the good fortune of heading onto the water with Top Guide and OWO columnist Phil Schweik and Hooksetters Fishing Services. They seem happy with the results. By the way, all of these photos and many more, and the entire guide stories can be viewed and read under “Inland Fishing” on this website.
OWO writer and Top Guide Dave Duwe is reporting good fishing on Lake Geneva and Delavan Lake in southern Wisconsin. His clients, including Rick Riener with walleyes and an unidentified young client with Largemouth bass, hold the evidence.
OWO columnist and teacher retiree extraordinaire Wayne Morgenthaler of Richland County, who took the monster largemouth adorning the cover of our July-August issue now on the shelves, took some great photos while lake fishing and stream fishing with his friends. They include Tim Finley on the backwaters with a crappie, and Micah Cooper fighting a trout on an inland stream under the watchful eyes of Wayne. I’ve been on the backwaters with Morgenthaler. He’s one of those fish magnets.
Lauren Kubiak and big brother Andrew along with Cousin Julia Cullaz found very good fishing in Manitowish Waters last weekend and send their proof. That’s Julia with a crappie and the whole crew with another smallie. Photos by Wisconsin musky row troller John Kubiak. Mark my words, you will hear of a 35 pound fish taken and released from Kubiak in November, at night, within five years. Nothing like pressure on the brother-in-law. But I believe it.
Luke Ellis continues his recent roll on muskies with this nice fish caught and released on Pewaukee Lake in Waukesha County. Luke sends the credit to veteran musky man Dave Dlobik for leading him on to foreign waters and showing him where to fish.
My great niece, Lydia Ellis, scores a pike in Iron County, while her uncle, Mike Ellis, my nephew, was busy catching this dandy 27 inch walleye on Lake DuBay.
I’m off to the northland to launch that skiff. If Lori and I score a nice musky, I will plaster this space with selfies next week, and maybe post a 17 page speech regarding how it all happened.
Don’t hold your breath.
Thanks for connecting with On Wisconsin Outdoors. Shoot straight.
