Healthy New Year…Now Get Fishn’ and Hunting
Our January February issue is on the streets and posted HERE. Pick up your copy at Kwik Trip stores, Menards, select Gander Mountains, Elliott’s Ace Hardwares or many other Wisconsin business location. If you are having trouble finding a distributor near you, e-mail me direct please at ellis@onwisconsinoutdoors.com and I’ll take care of you.
Special Thanks to Kwik Trip Store Leader Jenny Byes in Larsen Wisconsin. Some of you know I turn into a paper boy once every two months when the new issue is out so that about 30 distributors in southeast Wisconsin have the paper for you hot off the presses. Jenny saw me working under the hood in bitter cold weather in Larsen during the recent paper pick-up, put on her warm clothes, drove her vehicle to mine and tried to “jump” my truck. When this failed, she provided the names and locations of two local auto repair shops for my AAA service, offered a seat in the sunshine of the Kwik Trip counter as I waited, and wouldn’t take money for a cup of coffee. If you try any Kwik Trip store as you head to your favorite lake or hunting grounds in 2015, I’m betting you find the same kind of people taking care of you. Jenny did not know me from Adam, and she couldn’t fix my bad starter. But she took care of me like family.
I’ll be on the hardwater of Pewaukee Lake January 17 with a bunch of friends for the annual Ice Fisheree based out of Curly’s Waterfront Sports Bar & Grill, W272 N2696 Lakeview Blvd., Pewaukee. Call 262-691-424 for details. Have never been there personally before but my friends are telling me it’s a great time with big fish prizes in all categories, entertainment and time on the hardwater. Besides, hopefully the Packers will be playing in the NFC championship game the next day so you’re not missing a thing.
Time to ice fish. Don’t like time on the hardwater? Check out the sports shows below coming to northeast Wisconsin.
If you don’t like ice fishing, you can still think about all the great open water and hunting yet to come in 2015 in Badgerland at two great outdoor sport shows coming up in Appleton and Green Bay. The Northeast Wisconsin Sport Fishn’ Show will take place February 20-22 at Player’s Choice in Appleton. The Wisconsin State Hunting Expo takes place at Shopko Hall in Green Bay February 27 – March 1. For all details, connect with www.GreenBaySportShows.com. On Wisconsin Outdoors will be manning a booth in at least one of those shows but I’m not sure which one yet. If you see us, stop and say hello please.
Wilkerson has an accurate AR15 at the range, but the beauty of building his own firearm is that the project never really has to end.
I recommend that you read two columns by OWO Firearms expert Stuart Wilkerson in our new issue. Stuart has been building a Midwest Industries AR15. He’s done, and nailed the bullseye consistently at 100 yards in his first range test. But according to the article Stuart will never really be done, and that’s the beauty of building one for yourself. Read, “The Never Ending Project-Midwest Industries AR15 is as changeable as the author’s ever-evolving firearms’ needs.” You’ll find it on page 27. Another reason to head to Midwest Industries in Waukesha? Great people who know their products. Check them out at www.midwestindutriesinc.com.
While you’re reading, Stuart also welcomes new OWO 2015 advertiser Tactical Toy Store USA on page 29. Read “Airsoft Road Trip-Discover a new world of shooting sports”. Waukesha, according to Stuart, is the home for this largest airsoft replica and accessory vendor in the Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin area. Their retail “Superstore” is located at 300 Travis Lane #19 in Waukesha. Their internet sales site can be accessed at TacticalToyStoreUSA.com.
“You don’t need a club membership, costly firearm, expensive ammunition, or gas to travel to the range to enjoy the shooting sports,” Wilkerson writes. “In fact you, your family and friends may have even more fun for a lot less money in your basement, backyard, or a tactical environment with an airsoft replica. What’s an airsoft replica? Generally speaking, it’s an air gun that fires inexpensive, non-lethal plastic BBs.”
Find out all about that Airsoft Road Trip too.
Go hunt down those stories and so much more online and in our new print issue. Thanks for connecting with On Wisconsin Outdoors. We like you here. More than 53,000 of you left almost one million “hits” on our website in November and December. Thank you.
Shoot straight...Aaron. Go Pack Go!
