Good Luck
There’s few things worse than pounding the keyboard on a Thursday when your hunting crew is already arriving at the cabin 300 miles north with a new gun season looming. There are few things better than a Wisconsin opening day, except, for sure, the Wisconsin bowhunt all season long.
Good luck, wherever you’re going throughout the Badger state. Speaking of, let’s hope we come in Saturday from the cold…and it will be cold…to find the Badgers thrashed Minnesota and kept the Axe. I wonder if the Gophers remember what it looks like? Let’s hope we come in Sunday (or are we watching?) to find that the Packers pounded the hated Vikings. Is that politically correct? Okay then, the much disliked…and hated…Vikings.
Well, maybe we don’t hate them enough not to post some nice photos sent to us. Minnesota starts gun hunting earlier than we do. Proud Grandpa Larry Shones sends us photos of his grandsons, Logan and Tanner Lammers with the beautiful buck shot by Logan, 16, near Rushford Minnesota. The buck was taken while hunting with their father, Chris Lammers. Grandpa tells us that Logan has hunted since age 12 and already has a 10-point, three eight pointers and a seven point buck to show for his time in the field.
My brother Jim Ellis of Forest Lake Minnesota (no worries, he hates the Vikings too or I wouldn’t post him) set down the bow for a day and picked up the muzzleloader in big ridge country. The ridges are so steep in fact, I’m glad I live too far away to get a phone call to help him drag. Jim dropped this 9-pointer at 60 yards that never took a step and fell into a creek. My nephew Luke Ellis did help his dad with a hard pull. Luke Man is also a Packer fan.
Antler King Products Pro Staffer Jim Olsson sends us trail cam photos of some of the bucks he’s been watching in recent days. Jim’s pretty picky about what he tags, like his 500 pound, 2013 bear, but don’t be surprised if we post more photos next week of a brute wearing an Olsson tag. I won’t be.
We told you last week that the Hart brothers, Mike and Tom, took nice bucks with the bow near Madison. Below we’ve posted Tom’s 10-pointer and Mike’s 8-pointer. If you travel back to last week’s blog you will see that Mike also captured his big eight on trail cam and sent the photo to us.
My uncle Stan Ellis of far northern Wisconsin sends us a photo of a nice buck he captured on trail camera last week. I personally believe he’s hanging around Stan’s stand because it’s among the safest areas in Wisconsin. I may be wrong, but if Stan is posted next week with his buck, look very closely at the carcass for tire treads.
Nate Grant of Iola sends us a photo of this 9 point big boy taken in northwest Waupaca County November 7. Nate grunted him in to the bow kill. The buck weighed 180 pounds and sported a 17-1/2 inside spread.
If you’re looking to raise a toast to your buck this week, or during Thanksgiving and the Holidays, you can salute those preserving the conservation of Wisconsin’s Hunting & Fishing Heritage at the same time. Capitol-Husting/Allstate Liquor & Wine Company has joined forces with Rod & Rifle Bourbon and Wildlife Forever in those conservation efforts. Rod & Rifle contributes considerable profits from each consumer purchase to Wildlife Forever for conservation projects in Wisconsin. Wildlife Forever is the leading all species conservation group in the United States. Read and see the whole story.

Thanks for connecting with On Wisconsin Outdoors. Check out Deer Hunting, Outdoor News, Firearms, and Inland Fishing on this website to see what else we’ve posted this week. Don’t forget to grab your paper for cabin reading.
Good luck. Hunt safe. Shoot straight.
