2013 Wolf Hunt Off to Extraordinary Start

It’s a biting cold Wednesday and I pound keys in a dark office before the sun with a northern Wisconsin bowhunt on my mind.  I will join my brothers in the North Country and spend two days in a tree or maybe in a duck blind if the wind blows too hard and the northern ducks get goosed south.  Mainly, call this trip a tune-up for the fast looming rut.  Take your hat off when you say that.

There are some things you should know about that we posted on this website too in recent days.  First, the wolf hunt is insanely successful, with trappers doing most of the heavy lifting.  Almost 100 wolves have been harvested by this October 23 morning, and Zone 2 is already being shut down.  Look for details on the website under “Deer Hunting”, “Trapping”, “Bear Hunting” or “Outdoor News”.

Are you hungry? You will be after you travel over this menu.  Heaven City Restaurant in Mukwonago is offering an extraordinary Wild Game feast on November 13, along with Chef Lee Christenson and Sand Creek Brewmaster Todd Krueger.  See the entire menu posted under “Outdoor News” or “Inland Fishing”.  You can also view the Heaven City ad in the November-December issue of On Wisconsin Outdoors. Then call 262-363-5191 to reserve your spot….seating is limited.

OWO Guide and writer Dave Hraychuck takes us to Yellow Lake for some successful sturgeon fishing with hook and line.  Dave calls it CPR, or Catch, Photograph, and Release.  Join him under “Inland Fishing” read his report and see more photos.

Great writer Darrell Pendergrass from Washburn heads west to hunt ducks in an entertaining (as usual) story from North Dakota pothole country.  Darrell says North Dakota is a great place to spend time with the family, even though it might not be your own. We post it under “Waterfowl Hunting”.

OWO writer and man on the move Johnny Luthens lands on the Brule for an autumn stalk on steelhead and browns.  John loves his job and it shows.  Find him under “Inland Fishing”. If he sees you coming, though, he might hide.  He just doesn’t come out of the field too often.

OWO flyfishing expert Jerry Kiesow tells us the Sheboygan River is still being salmon-generous, and we must believe him; he sends photos.  Find Jerry too under “Inland Fishing”.

f

Super Guide John Carlson in Price County tells us that both muskies and crappies are turning on.  Falling temperatures will do that for you, and John has the proof.  Tap into “Inland Fishing”.

Of all the material we post under “Outdoor News” and “Firearms”, I find the information posted by the “Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership” among the most interesting and probably the most useful to preserving freedom.  It’s amazing what the truth will do. You think the history of persecution of the Jews has anything to do with these generations today having no intentions of giving up their guns? When you reach firearms, scroll back a few days. The JPFO honors Washington Times reporter Emily Miller for outstanding reporting on the 17 step process it takes to legally own a handgun in Washington DC.

And while they’re keeping you from your firearms, make sure your soda isn’t a few ounces too big, you big…criminal…you.

Have no doubt about it. The Second Amendment was designed for you…today…in 2013. Hold on tight.  We all will, together.

I’m going hunting.

Thanks for connecting with On Wisconsin Outdoors.  We’re very excited about the November-December issue that comes off the presses next week. It’s an awesome issue thanks to these guys I just introduced and so many more.

Shoot Straight.
