Wisconsin Waterfowl Association August eNews

August is here again, and with it comes the determination of this year's waterfowl seasons, the excitement of the State Duck & Goose Calling Championships, and the return to a series of fundraising & Member outreach events, hosted by our hard working volunteer teams, all over the state.

Last week, Board of Directors Secretary, Bruce Urben, and I traveled to Antigo to address the members of the Lumberjack Resource Conservation & Development Council, Inc. to support our request for more than $16,000 in grant funds, to extend the disabled accessible trail system, build a wildlife viewing platform, and the second in a series of disabled accessible hunting blinds, at the WWA long-term project property in Abrams. Our proposal was received very enthusiastically, and we're confident that at the next meeting of the group in October, we'll receive a final approval for our proposal, which will help us move forward with some of the next phase of projects up there, more quickly! Bruce and I would never have known about this little-publicized source of funding for this project without the extensive help and guidance of Ken Dolata, the County Conservationist for Oconto County. Ken's interest in the Abrams project has helped WWA in many ways, from the Pike Spawning Habitat work, to now the "hook-up" with Lumberjack RC&D. WWA owes Ken many thanks!

There's numerous interesting articles in this month's edition of the E-news - jump in and enjoy. And if you can't join us at one of the events occurring all around the state this month, please take a moment, and go on-line, or call Kelcy, and renew or start a new Membership, today. The impact of each Membership makes a difference, and your Association needs you.   The last two months in a row, and five times already this year, we've added a new Life Member - each of whom recognized the difference their contribution can make to our works in the state. Will you be the next one?

Thanks to all of our volunteers, for the work ahead this month!

See you on the water,

Don Kirby
Executive Director
