WaterfowlerJohn Volkman of Door County took Hunter Honorable Mention
WaterfowlerJohn Volkman of Door County took Hunter Honorable Mention with two photos submitted to the 2011 DU Hunting Magazine Photo Contest. While on a solo hunt on the Lake Michigan shoreline with his lab, Ready, Volkman bagged a limit of drake Oldsquaws and snapped this award-winning photo of Ready.
There is nothing more striking than a black dog holding a black and white duck on a late fall Lake Michigan shoreline," Volkman said.
Volkam also took another Honorable Mention in the DU contest with a shot displayed in the DU link below while hunting with friend Richard Drobnek.

That snow goose shot was taken on an annual hunt to Saskatchewan, Canada," Volkman said. "I recently started to enjoy trying to get the perfect hunting action shot while hunting snowgeese. As hard as they can be to get into gun range they can be even more difficult to get in close enough for a good photograph since cameras often make the birds appear further out than they really are.
On This particular hunt, I had already shot my limit of Snows and picked up my camera as birds continued to fall into our decoy spread. In hindsight, I wish I would have stayed longer and taken more pictures.
