Wern Valley Spring Update

April 10, 2013

Thanks to all the cold and nasty wet weather, the Club will remain open for hunting until Saturday, April 20th. Cancellations have been outnumbering reservations, so there are still a couple hundred birds unspoken for. A good number of members have already postponed their hunts from this week to next, with the Club working to help members finish up their birds under contract. If you are coming to hunt, don't forget your waterproof (barn) boots as the recent rains and melt off have left some wet areas in fields.

There are three tower shoots coming up and a 100 bird registered sporting clays event scheduled for this Saturday, April 13. This event is part of a 300 target combined event with Waukesha Gun Club and Northbrook Sportsmens Club in Illinois. Participants who choose to shoot at all three clubs will be entered in a combined Lewis class with $10 of each entry fee going towards that Lewis class. Shoot at Wern and Waukesha on Saturday and Northbrook on Sunday for a chance to win!

The first batch of chicks will be arriving just a week after the Club closes - so there is a lot happening in the coming couple of weeks. Time really does fly!

The Club's Summer Sporting Clays League will be starting on May 1st, so get your team together! Teams are 4-7 shooters in size, lasts for 15 weeks, and the best four scores of the week will count. Shooting is on Wednesday and Thursday from noon-dusk and Saturdays from 9-3. There is a sponsor fee of $160 that goes towards the banquet at the end of the season. The league is handicapped so shooters of all skill levels can compete. Keep your wingshooting in top shape during the off season and you will harvest more birds next year.

It's not too early to renew your membership for 2013-2014. Don't forget that if you renew before June 1st, you will get five extra birds for your account. The Club is also running a new promotion this year. If you get a new member to sign up, we will add another five birds to your account. Contact the Club for more information on the promotion.

Please note: There is no scratch or other hunting allowed on the Club grounds after April 20th. In the event there are birds available for dog training or you just wish to run your dog, remember you must check in at the clubhouse before and after your activities. The rifle and pistol range will be open to members during the summer as well, but not during sporting clays days and hours of operation. You must call ahead prior to use and please remember that there is no shooting on Club grounds on Sundays in the summertime.
