Prairie Chickens are Booming!
Despite what seems to be a never-ending winter, Greater Prairie Chickens are booming and there are a number of upcoming opportunities to see this spectacle for yourself.
This weekend is the Annual Prairie Chicken Festival: http://prairiechickenfestival.org/. Registrants can still reserve spaces in the blinds to see this wonderful behavior up close and personal.
If you've never seen a booming chicken see the WI-DNR video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJBuZsj14zM&feature=youtu.be to get a feel for their crazy dance!
If you can't make it this weekend you can reserve a blind for later in the season by going to: http://www4.uwsp.edu/wildlife/pchicken/viewing.aspx for details and availability.
