Learn to Hunt Woodcock Workshop Scheduled

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is hosting a "Learn to Hunt Woodcock” workshop for college-aged students who are interested in learning to hunt this native game bird.

Selected participants will be required to attend a mandatory meeting that will take place Friday, October 24th, 2014 on the UW-Stevens Point campus to prepare the participants for the mentored hunt. The woodcock hunt will be held on Saturday, October 25th, 2014 at the Mead Wildlife Area (approximately 20 miles northwest of Stevens Point). Participants must have completed Hunter Safety prior to the hunt.

There will be one mentor for every workshop participant. Experienced dog trainers will provide well-trained gundogs to hunt over. A small game hunting license is not required to participate in this workshop. Firearms (if necessary) and ammunition will be provided for each participant at no charge. Orange safety clothing (hats, vests, jackets, etc.) will be provided to participants. The cost of this workshop is only $35.00 and will include a one-year membership to the American Woodcock Society.

If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact Cortney Schaefer at 715-359-6405 or Cortney.Schaefer@wi.gov prior to October 20, 2014. Selected applicants will be notified by October 21st, 2014.
